Now that Byakko is gone, Yusuke and his group are ready to take on the next Saint Beast. But before that, they come to a maze of doors. Kurama explains that there are thirteen doors, and only one leads to the next Saint Beast, while the others have unavoidable traps. Yusuke turns to Kuwabara for this one, because he has the best spirit awareness. Kuwabara chooses a door, saying that it feels the most evil, so it must be the way to go. Hiei questions Kuwabara's judgement, but Yusuke says that if Kuwabara didn't have very good spirit awareness, his guess would be as good as theirs. So, they go through the door Kuwabara chose, and it turns out to be the right way. The leader of the Saint Beasts is annoyed that they made it this far, but he is also impressed. He sends Seiryu, the Blue Dragon, down to fight them next.
Yusuke and the others reach a set of double doors with a blue dragon statue on either side. They go inside and see a mist, which Hiei thinks to be a form of spirit energy emitted by the next Beast. Seiryu withdraws the mist, revealing himself. Everyone is shocked by his size, as he is extremely tall. Seiryu introduces himself, and then gets an annoyed look on his face when he senses someone else coming towards the door. Everyone turns around, and they see an extremely burnt and wounded Byakko stumble in. Kuwabara is amazed, because he knocked Byakko into the lava. Byakko begs for Seiryu to help him, but Seiryu uses his Ice Dragon to freeze Byakko, then punches him so he shatters into pieces.
This angers everyone, because it is wrong to kill your own teammate, especially when they ask you for help (at least according to Kuwabara!). This angers Hiei the most out of anyone, and he steps up to fight Seiryu instead of Yusuke. Hiei pulls off his cloak and throws it over Byakko's frozen head. Hiei unsheathes his sword, and Seiryu fires his Ice Dragon at Hiei. Hiei cuts it in two with his sword, and they two blasts hit the wall behind him, narrowly missing Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama. Seiryu fires his Ice Dragon once again, but Hiei dodges, thanks to his incredible speed.
Because it seems to be his only attack, and it literally is the only one we ever see, Seiryu continues to fire his Ice Dragon all over the place. Hiei continues to dodge, but the tip of Kuwabara's hair gets frozen, as does much of the room. Yusuke comments that he's turning the room into a hockey rink. Seiryu finally hits Hiei, freezing his leg. Yusuke and Kurama are worried now. Seiryu fires his Ice Dragon at Hiei once again, but Hiei uses his sword to push him off the ground and jump over the attack. There is a flash of light as Hiei passes by Seiryu, and Hiei lands, then stands up. Seiryu is shocked, as Hiei breaks the ice that is encasing him, due to him being a fire demon. Also shocking to Seiryu, is when the sixteen slashes that Hiei hit him with during the flash of light finally set in, and Seiryu vanishes in a puff of smoke.
Everyone congratulates Hiei, and Kuwabara says that "Shorty's a lot cooler than I thought!" Kurama asks how many times Hiei actually slashed him, and Hiei tells him sixteen. Yusuke is disappointed that he only saw seven or eight. Kurama says that he only saw flashes of light, and Kuwabara says that he didn't even see the flashes. Hiei grabs his cloak and they continue on.
At the top of Maze Castle, the leader of the Saint Beasts is extremely upset that things have gone this far. His pet bird, Miruku arrives and tells him the one weakness that Yusuke has: Keiko. The leader of the Saint Beasts takes out the Makai Whistle and decides to send the army of infected humans after Keiko. He plays "Prelude to Keiko's Suffering, in A Minor".
Back on Earth, Botan is having trouble with all the infected humans, as their numbers are increasing faster than she can knock them down. Botan is soon cornered by a dozen of the infected humans, but they suddenly turn away because of the Makai Whistle. Botan decides to follow them, and sees that they're headed to Sarayashiki Jr. High, Yusuke's school.
Inside Sarayashiki Jr. High, Keiko is still at school, finishing up her Student Council duties. Iwamoto tells her that she should go home, and asks if she's heard anything about Yusuke. She says that she hasn't, and Iwamoto is pleased to hear this. As Iwamoto goes down the hall, a Makai insect crawls into his ear. Once Keiko exits the school, she finds half a dozen infected humans waiting for her at the front gate, chanting her name. Keiko runs, incredibly freaked out, and then runs into an infected Iwamoto, who says that its time for her "detention." Back in Maze Castle, Kuwabara suddenly stops running, and tells the others that something bad is happening back on Earth. Kurama says that they've been at Maze Castle for quite a while, and there's no telling how much time has passed on Earth. Hiei says that there's only one more Saint Beast left, and they continue on....
