Botan brings Yusuke to a secret date with Keiko, pissing off Yusuke. Botan then returns to Spirit World, where she yells at Koenma for always putting Yusuke in fights that are nearly impossible to win. Koenma says that he had complete confidence that Yusuke would win, but then an ogre comes in with a suit for Yusuke's funeral, which pisses off Botan. Another ogre comes in with bad news and a video tape. They put the tape in, and it shows that the Toguro Brothers are indeed alive after all. One of the monitors comes on, and Sakyo, the man who always bet on Yusuke winning, speaks to Toguro.

 

Apparently Toguro faked his death for Sakyo, his real boss. Because of Tarukane's losses, Sakyo is now the richest man in the world. However, Toguro wants a chance to fight Yusuke for real, and Sakyo says that Yusuke and his comrades will be guests at the upcoming Dark Tournament. Sakyo was impressed with Yusuke's potential, and then tells Toguro to kill Tarukane. Tarukane is losing his mind, just like he lost his money, but then Toguro kicks his head off. Koenma is nervous, because Yusuke and the others will be facing a difficult uphill battle in the Dark Tournament.

 

Back on Earth, Yusuke is waiting for Keiko to try on some clothes, and the clerks are keeping a careful watch on him. Due to his reputation, they believe he will try to steal something. Yusuke is about to ditch, but Keiko finishes up and scolds him. As they leave the store, they see a crowd around a building which has chunks missing from it. Yusuke and Keiko join the crowd, when suddenly Yusuke senses something and turns around. Yusuke sees a man sitting on a motorcycle, and the man removes his helmet, revealing himself to be none other than Toguro. Yusuke is shocked, because he believed Toguro to be dead. Toguro takes a swipe at Yusuke, and makes an extremely precise cut in his shirt. Yusuke is scared shitless, and then follows Toguro when he tells him to. Kuwabara comes upon the crowd, and then spots Toguro and Yusuke leaving.

 

Toguro takes Yusuke to a parking garage, and Yusuke wonders why they're there. Toguro notices Yusuke shaking, and notices that Yusuke is afraid. Toguro tells him that his fear motivates him to reach new levels. Toguro decides to motivate him by telling Yusuke that he only used 20% of his power in their previous fight. Toguro powers up to 60%, and begins to smash the supports holding up the parking garage. Then the entire top of the building falls down. Yusuke stumbles out of the rubble, and finds himself face to face with Toguro.

 

Toguro tells him that the Dark Tournament will be starting in three months. It is a tournament organized by greedy crimelords and powered by the demon fighters. Each teams has five fighters, and Yusuke will be on the guest team. Toguro tells him that he has no choice, because if he Yusuke refuses, he will kill everyone that Yusuke knows. Toguro says that Yusuke should get stronger if he wants to survive. Kuwabara has seen everything is shocked. As Toguro is leaving, he spots Kurama and Hiei, who had been watching from the top of a building. He tells them that they will be on Yusuke's team along with Kuwabara. Toguro tells them to find a strong fifth team member, because they will certainly need one. But their chances of winning will still be small.

 

Yusuke shows up at Genkai's the following day, not at all happy to be back. Kuwabara, however, goes off to train in a forest with Kurama and Hiei. Hiei is trying to toughen Kuwabara up, but Kuwabara isn't doing so well. Yusuke is sparring with Genkai, and isn't holding anything back, even when Yusuke falls off a cliff. Back in the forest, Kurama realizes that due to Hiei's honor and Kuwabara's weakness, Hiei isn't a very good person to train Kuwabara. Kurama steps in, saying that he won't hold back.

 

Three months later, Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara are awaiting the boat that is to take them to Hanging Neck Island, along with a large number of demons. They wonder where Yusuke is, and Kuwabara thinks that if he wins the Dark Tournament, then he will be able to win Yukina's heart, giving him a lot of motivation. The ship's captain says that its time to go, and Yusuke shows up just in the nick of time, with a masked figher alongside him. Hiei looks at Yusuke, then draws his sword and begins slashing at him. Yusuke dodges fairly easily, then catches Hiei's sword with one hand.

 

Yusuke is impressed with Hiei, and Hiei is impressed with Yusuke. Kuwabara has improved too, because he was able to follow their movements. Kuwabara is shocked at how small the masked figher is, but Hiei says that he and Yusuke are all that is needed to win this tournament. Yeah, right....
