Team Urameshi has secured their place in the Finals of the Dark Tournament, and now Team Toguro must do the same. However, Team Toguro is without their team leader, the Younger Toguro. The Elder Toguro explains to their opponents, Team Gorenja, that the Younger Toguro has more important things to do. Team Gorenja is insulted, but the Elder Toguro says that he, Bui, and Karasu will gladly take them on in in his place. Back at the hotel, Kuwabara is worried about Yusuke sleeping so much. However, Genkai tells Kuwabara to leave Yusuke alone. Kuwabara thinks that Yusuke will sleep too long and miss the Finals, but Genkai tells him that something is new inside Yusuke, and he will not miss the Finals. She tells Kuwabara that she is leaving, and if Yusuke wakes up, tell him not to follow her. She adds that Kuwabara has a kind heart, and that he should use it. Kuwabara thinks that she's acting strange, but doesn't think too much of it.
Back in the stadium, Karasu is facing one of the members of Team Gorenja, Mido Renja. Mido Renja starts off by forming a large, smelly green ball of spirit energy and hurling it at Karasu, who simply jumps out of the way. Mido Renja starts creating another attack, and Karasu begins walking towards him. Mido Renja throws his attack at Karasu, but Karasu jumps over it and grabs Mido Renja's shoulder. It explodes and Mido Renja's arm is blown off. Karasu jumps by Mido Renja again, and causes Mido Renja's other arm to be blown off by his attack. Mido Renja gives up and starts running, and Karasu comes after him. With a giant explosion Mido Renja is no more and Karasu is the winner. Kurama has watched all of this go on up in the stands, and he knows that he is no match for Karasu or anyone on Team Toguro while in his human form. He recalls Genkai telling both him and Hiei to watch these fight because they will each need a win. Kurama thinks that Hiei was wiser to disobey Genkai.
On a cliff overhanging the edge of the island, Hiei stands alone, trying his hardest to perfect his techniques, by combining darkness and fire. The results are spectacular, but Hiei's body is paying the price for them. Meanwhile, the girls run into Genkai in the forest. The girls say that they are ready to cheer on Team Urameshi in the Finals, and Genkai smiles. She sees Keiko and tells her to take good care of Yusuke, and that he loves her. Both Shizuru and Botan can sense that something is wrong.
Back at the stadium, the next match is commencing with Bui facing Kirenja. Kirenja pulls out a huge sword from behind his back. Bui puts his hand in the air and summons an axe so large and heavy, that his feet sink into the concrete floor of the ring. Kirenja says that Bui won't be able to swing the axe fast at close range, and slowly approaches Bui. When he thinks that he is close enough, he charges in with remarkable speed, but Bui simply swings his axe and slices Kirenja in two. Team Gorenja's leader is amazed that fighters as strong as Karasu and Bui obey the Toguros, but the Elder Toguro simply says that even the strongest man knows when to be afraid. He then tells Team Gorenja that he will take on the remaining three of them by himself.
The three are up to the challenge, and they immediately begin circling around Elder Toguro once the match begins, trying to use after-images to confuse him. The three charge up spirit energy and fire their Gorenja Battallion at Elder Toguro. The attack and the three Gorenjas are stopped when spikes suddenly shoot out of Elder Toguro's body, killing the female member of Team Gorenja and severely injuring the other two. The Elder Toguro is amazed that two of them survived, and offers to spare one of their lives. The team leader of Team Gorenja says that he has no choice but to kill both of them, or they'll get stronger and kill him some day. However, the other member of Team Gorenja begs for his life, and Elder Toguro says that his choice is made. Elder Toguro sends a spike right through the heart of the Gorenja that begged for his life. Elder Toguro tells the team leader and only remaining member of Team Gorenja that Karasu and Bui said the same thing once they were beaten down. Elder Toguro says that the Younger Toguro would want the Gorenja leader to join them, as Bui and Karasu did. They have no loyalties to anyone, and the motivation to kill the Toguros makes them want to continue to improve. Elder Toguro then says that he is not his brother, and then shoots a spike through the head of the Gorenja leader.
Meanwhile, deep in the forest, Genkai encounters the Younger Toguro, who knows that they both have been waiting for this. Back at the stadium, Team Toguro has claimed its spot in the Finals, and Kurama begins to leave, knowing that he must find out the secret to becoming Yoko again. Kurama then encounters Bui and Karasu in the hall, and they wonder why Kurama was the only one to come to watch. Karasu says that once the Finals are over, four of them will die. Kurama questions why Karasu only said four, and Karasu explains that one of them dies today. Karasu suddenly disappears, and Kurama is shocked that he can no longer sense him. Karasu reappears behind Kurama and grabs Kurama's throat. Karasu says that he knows that Kurama fears his touch, but maybe he also wants to know it. Karasu jumps away, and then he tells Kurama that out of all the fighters on Team Urameshi, he likes Kurama the best. Karasu says that when he likes something, he likes to take it away. Karasu turns and leaves with Bui, leaving Kurama in an even greater state of fear.
Back in the forest, Toguro comments on how old Genkai has gotten and says that its bizarre. Genkai says that Toguro hasn't changed at all, and she's still disgusted with him. Toguro says that she used to be beautiful, and asks why she put a mask on. Genkai explains that she didn't want to be stalked by the hundreds of demons that want her head on their wall. Toguro comments that Genkai is weaker now, and she says that her power is with Yusuke now. Toguro is pleased to hear this, and knows that its time for them to end their chapter of the story. Toguro begins to summon his power, and back at the hotel, Yusuke bolts upright in bed, sensing that something is not right. He asks Kuwabara where Genkai is, and Kuwabara explains that she left and told him not to follow her. Yusuke charges out of the hotel, while deep in the forest, Genkai and Toguro begin their fight, knowing that this is the end of the road for one of them....
