The Finals of the Dark Tournament have begun with Kurama pitted against the deadly Karasu in the first round. Kurama has transformed into Yoko Kurama in an effort to try to get an early lead. Karasu sends a fleet of Trace-Eyes at Yoko, who is surrounded. Just when the Trace-Eyes are about to attack Yoko, something comes out of the ground and destroys them all. That something is the Ojigi plant. The Ojigi begins to chase Karasu, who begins to run away. Yusuke shouts for Kurama to kick his ass. Karasu throws a bomb at one of the Ojigi heads, setting it on fire. However, there are too many Ojigi heads for Karasu to handle. The Ojigi heads begin to cover Karasu, who chokes, and his mask falls off. Then Karasu is literally engulfed by the Ojigi heads, and Yoko is sad that the battle could not last longer. Yoko turns away, and Juri begins to announce the winner, when suddenly the ball of Ojigi heads holding Karasu explodes.
Yoko turns around and sees Karasu, who is smiling. Elder Toguro comments that Karasu's lost his mask. Younger Toguro says that things are about to heat up, and tells Sakyo to take a few steps back. Karasu inhales deeply, and his hair turns blonde. Karasu is also surrounded by an aura of his energy. Kuwabara's wondering what's up with his hair, and Hiei explains that Karasu has put the explosive power inside himself, and he's about to blow. "If you're wise, you'll take cover now." Karasu forms a ball of energy in his hands that continues to grow bigger and bigger. Younger Toguro comments that Karasu is not holding back, and tells Sakyo to take a few more steps back. Karasu leaps into the air, gathering more energy. When he gets enough, he dive-bombs Yoko, and a huge explosion ensues, blowing a hole in the stadium.
Much of the ring is destroyed and covered in smoke. When the smoke clears, Karasu is left standing alone in the ring. Outside the ring, however, Kurama emerges from under a pile of rubble in his normal form. Kuwabara swears to beat down Suzuka the next time he sees him, because Kurama should have had fifteen minutes in his Yoko form, and this time he was only in it for about five. Karasu tells him to say his prayers, because he's about to meet his creator. Kurama pulls a rose out from under his hair and tries to make it into a Rose Whip, but the rose petals shatter, because Kurama has lost too much energy. Karasu laughs at him, but then, surprisingly, Kurama leaps into the ring and takes the offensive.
Karasu dodges Kurama's attacks with ease, but Hiei believes that Kurama has a plan. Karasu summons another bomb, but Kurama says that he won't be afraid of something that he can't see. Karasu launches a bomb at Kurama, who surprisingly dodges and knocks Karasu backwards with his hands and a bit of energy. Karasu chuckles, knowing what Kurama just did. Karasu pulls the Death Seed out of his chest, and can't believe that Kurama thought it would work. Karasu says that Kurama is lacking in tact, and now Karasu is tired of toying around. A claw comes out of the ground and grabs Kurama by the ankle. Attached to the claw is a bomb, and Karasu calls it the Muddy Bomb (Mad Bomb in English). It explodes, sending Kurama flying and severely injuring Kurama's leg.
Kurama struggles to his feet, and Yusuke shouts for him not to move, because Kurama's surrounded by bombs. Karasu comments that he thought Kurama said he wouldn't be afraid of something that he can't see. He says that Kurama has no energy left to summon a plant, or do anything of the sort, and that he is weak, tired, and pathetic. Karasu has the bombs slowly move in, one by one, exploding on impact. Kurama can't take any more and collapses on the ground. Karasu comments that Kurama's red hair matches his firy will to continue on. Karasu adds that he didn't hit Kurama's face with the bombs, and that even though he can't keep Kurama, he can still have the memory of Kurama's face to bring comfort.
Kurama gets back on his feet, thinking that Karasu couldn't more wrong about his lack of tact, because the wound created from the Death Seed is extremely close to Karasu's heart, and a bloodsucking plant should easily be able to kill him. However, Kurama can only summon a plant by using his life energy, and even if Kurama dies, the match will be a draw.
Karasu has finally lost interest in tormenting Kurama and decides to end the match. He has his remaining bombs move in, and Kurama collapses again, drenched in blood. Everyone thinks that this is the end for Kurama, and Juri begins the ten-count. At count number seven, Kurama begins to get up, and Karasu tells Kurama that shouldn't have. Karasu fires an energy blast at Kurama, but Kurama uses his life energy to summon a bloodsucking plant the goes through the energy blast and begins to suck blood from Karasu's wound. Kurama promptly collapses again, and Karasu is shocked that Kurama was able to do this. Karasu falls to the ground, and the plant consumes him. Karasu is dead.
The audience is shocked, especially when Kurama opens his eyes and slowly gets to his feet. Kurama wonders how he's alive, but then realizes: His transformations into Yoko don't last as long, but that's because Yoko's power is becoming part of Kurama again, so Kurama had more energy than he thought, and that's how he survived. Yusuke and Kuwabara cheer that they've got they're first win, but Juri has a look on her face like she has something to say....
